Role Description

We are hiring an Accountant & Project Cost Controller to manage accounting, expenses, project costing, and financial reporting across our construction/design-build company and digital marketing agency.

This is not only a basic bookkeeping role.

We need someone organized, sharp, and detail-oriented who can help us understand exactly where money is being spent, which projects are profitable, which suppliers are expensive, and where costs can be improved.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily bookkeeping in Zoho Books
  • Enter supplier bills, receipts, invoices, payments, and company expenses
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, petty cash, and supplier balances
  • Maintain clean financial records across multiple business entities
  • Use Zoho tags/projects properly to track costs by company, project, trade, supplier, and category
  • Track construction project costs including labour, materials, tools, subcontractors, transport, permits, and site expenses
  • Prepare weekly cost reports showing spending by project and category
  • Track project budgets vs actual costs
  • Help compare supplier pricing, labour costs, and cost per square foot/meter between projects
  • Monitor petty cash given to site staff and flag missing receipts or unexplained balances
  • Track payroll, staff salaries, advances, deductions, leave balances, and visa-related costs
  • Organize documents for UAE corporate tax, VAT, and compliance requirements
  • Coordinate with external accountants/tax consultants when required
  • Help organize Canadian company accounting records for review by a Canadian CPA
  • Prepare simple weekly reports for management covering cash spent, payments due, missing receipts, project costs, and financial issues
  • Research and flag possible cost-saving opportunities, supplier savings, rebates, financing options, or financial improvements where relevant

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience
  • Experience using Zoho Books preferred
  • QuickBooks, Xero, or similar accounting software experience also acceptable if you can learn Zoho quickly
  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills
  • Experience in construction, fit-out, contracting, real estate, or project-based accounting is strongly preferred
  • Good understanding of UAE invoices, receipts, petty cash, supplier payments, VAT basics, and corporate tax documentation
  • Able to organize messy receipts, expenses, and supplier records into a clean system
  • Comfortable working in a small, fast-moving company
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Must be reliable, organized, and able to work without constant supervision
  • Preferred but not required
  • Experience with job costing or project costing
  • Experience with construction material/labour cost tracking
  • Experience working with multiple companies or business divisions
  • Basic understanding of Canadian bookkeeping is a bonus
  • Experience preparing reports for owners/management

Compensation

  • Year 1: AED 4,000/month all-inclusive
  • Year 2: AED 4,500/month all-inclusive
  • Year 3: AED 5,000/month all-inclusive
  • 30 days off per year (inclusive of vacation, public holidays, and sick days)
